Faraday Typeface

Faraday Typeface

The Faraday Typeface draws inspiration from the Michael Faraday Memorial in Elephant & Castle. The Memorial itself served as the foundation for creating the matrix grid for each glyph. During my research, I captured the Memorial from multiple angles to explore different perspectives. This led to the decision to use a two-point perspective for the final grid, giving each glyph its distinct form.

After designing my typeface, I wanted to add extra context by animating the moment when Faraday's first homopolar generator begins to spin, producing electricity that lights up the typeface. To further honour this, I plasma-cut the typeface into a stainless steel sheet, overlaying it with a square grid, a nod to the original inspiration: the Faraday Memorial.
